Neuromodulators are wrinkle-relaxing injections of botulinum toxin – commercially known as Botox Cosmetic, Dysport, Xeomin or Jeuveau – that are used to treat wrinkles, frown lines and crow’s feet. A minute amount of the neuromodulator is injected directly into the underlying muscle, causing it to relax and gradually smooth out the appearance of the overlying skin.

Injections are made intramuscularly (into the muscle) and subcutaneously (between the skin and muscle). The number of injections depends on the size of the treatment area and facial features. For example, crow's feet might need two to three injections, while brow furrows could need five or more. Injections are often started in the middle of the forehead and then move out towards the corners of the face. A second layer of injections might be made up towards the hairline.

The treatment takes about 10-15 minutes to complete, takes effect after 1-2 weeks, and lasts 3-4 months!
